Molly was one of those girls who had a lot of friends in school and was always around people. Rarely, you would see her walking around the school or down the street by herself. Molly and her friends played every sport together, did every after school activity together, etc. They had all been involved in their schools soccer team since middle school but Molly was the only one who was actually serious about it. She really enjoyed soccer and hoped to someday be able to play in college where she could get a scholarship for it. Her coach told her that she had all of the potential in the world to play college soccer but she should definitely do some soccer leagues outside of her school on her own. “On her own” was a phrase that Molly never really put herself with. She was used to always grabbing a friend to come with her places but this was different. She had no choice but to sign up for the team, take a deep breath, and step on to the soccer field with a bunch of girls she had never met and a whole lot of confidence.
A fun week had gone by along her friend’s sides and I it was finally time for her soccer league to start. She had been dreading it and had no idea what it would be like or how she should even act. She was so used to having people she knew with her to avoid the awkward situation of not knowing anyone. Molly wasn’t extremely shy but when it came to meeting new people she wasn’t the most outgoing out of the bunch. When she walked on to the field towards her new teammates her heart was pounding. She was only thinking that she should just turn around right then and there and go back to her friends, her comfort zone. However she had no choice but to stay and try and meet new people.
She was greeted by her new coach who turned her over to her teammates to mingle with. Molly notices right away that the soccer girls were all kind of loud and not people that she was really used to. Her group of friends were all very laid back and chill but this was something new to her. As she started talking to some of them she notices that things were going really smoothly. She was getting along great with the girls and she couldn’t believe how easy it was for her to fit right in. So, after a hard days work at soccer practice with a new group of friends Molly went back home. She couldn’t wait to tell her parents how her day had gone. When they heard what a great time Molly had had her parents were absolutely thrilled. After all they were a bit nervous for her to do something on her own seeing as how Molly was normally linked to her friends by the hip. She sat in her room with a smile in her face feeling proud of herself and going through her day in her head over and over again until it was time to go to sleep.
The next day, Molly met with her group of friends as usual for lunch and then went shopping with them. She suddenly felt herself being really loud and outgoing with her usual group of friends and they all seemed to give her weird looks. It was then that Molly realized something; she was acting completely different with her friends because of what happened the day before. She started acting like the girls on her soccer team but her other friends did not seem to like it. They thought that her sudden change in personality was strange and Molly could tell. Did she really change in one day? Was it possible that just by meeting new people, a new personality had come out of her?
Molly had soccer the next day with her friends and everything went smoothly once again. They laughed out loud till their stomachs hurt, they danced to the speakers that one of the girls brought every time they had a break, and of course they used the rest of their energy to play soccer. After practice, Molly couldn’t help but really understand what had happened with her other friends just the day. As the days went by Molly realized that her new out going personality was only something she shared with her soccer group, because it was a new group. She was able to remake herself and step into a surrounding where no one knew anything about her and adapt to the new environment. Molly went back to how she normally acted with her other old friends and kept it that way. She was able to play two different characters with two different groups of friends.
